Uzbekistan 24/07/2008 Uzbekistan, Kuwait Intend to Deepen Bilateral Cooperation
"These talks will extend the scope of our cooperation and will enrich it with new content," Karimov said at the meeting.

Transport cooperation contributes to the further expansion of bilateral trade, as well as to the acceleration of bilateral business contacts and the development of partnership with other countries, the Uzbek presidential press service told Interfax on Tuesday.

"For example, the construction of the trans-Afghan corridor will secure a multifaceted infrastructure along it, provide Afghan citizens with jobs, and will make the country join regional integration processes. At the same time this route will make Uzbekistan and Kuwait closer. As a result, a huge integration space will appear between Central Asian and the Persian Gulf countries," the press service said in comments on the results of the talks.

However, it was noted that both parties are not satisfied with the current rates of cooperation: bilateral trade has stayed at a low level and consisted mainly of goods exported from Uzbekistan.

"The parties decided to jointly revise the trade structure and work out measures to accelerate mutual trade," the press service said.

A joint Uzbek-Kuwaiti declaration, as well as a large package of bilateral agreements, was signed in the wake of the talks.
