Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 1 June 2023, a memorandum was signed between the Ministry of Natural Resources and the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) on the "Smart technology-based forest and urban forest greening project in Tashkent region". The document was signed by First Deputy Minister of Natural Resources Obid Kudratov and Director of the KOICA office in Uzbekistan Park Sunjin.

It should be noted that the goal of the project is to green the forests and urban forests of Tashkent region based on "smart" technologies, as well as to improve the skills of foresters, in particular, to increase the capacity of more than 60 forest specialists in the management and development of nursery farming.

As part of the project, it is planned to plant 1.7 million pistachio seedlings on 5 hectares, install 6 "smart" greenhouses for growing seedlings in containers, and plant root seedlings on an area of 50 hectares.

The measures planned under the project will help to increase the level of institutional capacity in this area along with the development of nursery farming in Uzbekistan based on the Korean experience.

The total cost of the project is US$7.7 million.
