Uzbekistan joins the treaty on principles governing the activities of states in the exploration and use of outer space

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — During the 55th plenary session, the Senate adopted the "Law on the Accession of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Treaty on Principles Governing the Activities of States in the Exploration and Use of Outer Space, including the Moon and Other Celestial Bodies (London, Moscow, and Washington, on 27 January 1967)."

In modern conditions, space activities are gaining increasing importance in the process of globalization and informatization of the world community. Many countries, both leading and developing, are actively conducting scientific research and using outer space to implement their economic, defense, technical, scientific, social, cultural, and international interests.

The necessity for Uzbekistan to join international organizations and documents based on international law norms is becoming more urgent. This will enable the country not only to establish and strengthen cooperation with developed countries on the international stage but also to conduct space activities considering national interests and in accordance with international standards. Moreover, this will expedite the transfer of technologies.

It was noted that the Treaty came into force on October 10, 1967, and by 2024, 114 countries had become its participants.

The ratification of the Treaty will open new opportunities for Uzbekistan to explore and use outer space, providing free access to all areas of outer space and celestial bodies. Participation in international space projects will also create conditions for resource and knowledge exchange with other countries.

Following the discussions, the Law was approved by the senators.
