Uzbekistan joins the International Code for the Protection of Tourists

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 24 February 2024, Uzbekistan officially became a participant in the International Code for the Protection of Tourists, developed by the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). This decision underscores the country's commitment to upholding high international standards in tourism and ensuring the rights of travelers.

Joining the Code marks an important milestone in the ongoing development of Uzbekistan’s tourism sector, which has been gaining international recognition in recent years. Minister of Ecology, Environmental Protection, and Climate Change Aziz Abdukhakimov emphasized the significance of this step, stating, "The International Code for the Protection of Tourists is a key instrument in restoring trust in travel in the post-pandemic period. By joining this document, Uzbekistan aims to create a safe and comfortable environment for all tourists."

Developed under the auspices of the United Nations, the International Code for the Protection of Tourists consists of principles and recommendations aimed at ensuring the safety, rights, and interests of travelers while promoting the sustainable development of tourism. Uzbekistan’s adherence to this document reaffirms its commitment to adopting best practices in hospitality and strengthening its reputation as an attractive travel destination.

This move also facilitates Uzbekistan’s further integration into the global tourism industry, increasing confidence among international visitors. Experts believe that adopting the Code will serve as an additional catalyst for the country’s growing tourist influx, which has been showing positive trends in recent years.

With this step, Uzbekistan continues to solidify its position on the global tourism map, making travel to the country even safer and more comfortable for visitors from around the world.
