Uzbekistan is among the countries that have met the UN two percent accessibility indicators for the cost of mobile broadband Internet services

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- According to the UN report of the International Telecommunication Union for 2021, Uzbekistan was among four countries that met the UN targets for two percent affordability of prices for broadband mobile Internet services.

This was announced by the Resident Representative of the World Bank in Uzbekistan Marco Mantovanelli in his speech at the international round table on the topic "Inclusive digitalization and business process outsourcing (BPO) in Uzbekistan".

- Despite the increase in prices for the use of Internet services around the world in 2021, Uzbekistan last year met the UN two percent target for the availability of Internet services and ranked among the four new entrants (countries).

The reforms carried out in Uzbekistan over the past five years deserve attention, - said Marco Mantovanelli.

According to him, the government of Uzbekistan has set the task of digital transformation as a strategic agenda.

- Recognizing the important role of digital development for the economic growth of Uzbekistan and the creation of new jobs, the Government has set digital transformation as a top strategic agenda. Among them is the approval of the Strategy "Digital Uzbekistan - 2030" and drawing attention to digitalization issues in the framework of the Development Strategy of New Uzbekistan for 2022-2026, the representative of the World Bank added.

He also noted that in the country until 2017, about 600 thousand new job seekers competed for less than 200 thousand jobs, but today the Government is taking measures and achieving new indicators in creating decent jobs for young people, strengthening their digital skills, increasing the number of business process outsourcing (BPO) services, creation of remote jobs in Uzbekistan, especially in rural areas.

Marco Mantovanelli proposed to celebrate the 30th anniversary of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the World Bank, expressed readiness to continue broad cooperation with Uzbekistan.
