Uzbekistan introduces new import duties
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan introduced combined customs duties to import of several consumer products. The Uzbek President Islam Karimov signed a resolution “On additional measures on regulating foreign economic activity”, which introduced new import duties in Uzbekistan.

The country introduced specific rate at the level of US$15 per unit in import of mobile, wireless and stationary phone handsets. At the same time, Uzbekistan kept existing 30% ad valorem duty (calculated in percent from customs price of the goods).

Specific rate were also introduced to import of cosmetics, shampoos and means for hairs - at least US$1 per kilogram, deodorants and antiperspirants, means for shaving and teeth cleaning means - US$0.5 per kilogram. At the same time, Uzbekistan kept existing 30% ad valorem duty (calculated in percent from customs price of the goods).

The resolution set specific rates for import of plastic goods - polymeric pipelines and fittings - at the rate of US$0.3 per kilogram, plates and lists - US$0.5 per kg and keeping 10% ad valorem duty.

Uzbekistan set specific rate at the level of US$0.5 per kilogram for import of paintings and dyes on synthetic polymers, oil-paints and dyes. At the same time, Uzbekistan kept existing 30% ad valorem duty.

The document said new import duties will come into force from 1 September 2009. Earlier duties were set in 2002.
