Enterprises of Uzhlopkoprom (Uzbek Cotton Industry) increased cotton-finer production by 9.5% to 811,945 tonnes. Enterprises with the foreign investments decreased 1.7 times to 3,125 tonnes.

In April 2007, the government of Uzbekistan approved a programme on modernization and reconstruction of ginnery industry for 2007-2011 with the cost of US$150 million. The programme envisages reconstruction of 20 cotton plants and modernization of 21 enterprises of the industry.

The programme stipulates liquidation of 30 enterprises with the old equipment, low capacities and located in large cities.

Uzbekistan decreased cotton-fiber production by 3.9% year-on-year to 1.125 million tonnes in 2007. According to statistics, Uzbekistan increased production of raw cotton by 3.2% year-on-year to 3.715 million tonnes in 2007.
