Uzbekistan implements advanced PBN navigation system with IATA support
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Uzbekistan Air Navigation Center (GUP "Uzaeronavigation") has partnered with the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to implement Performance-Based Navigation (PBN) in the country’s airspace. Launched on 12 April 2024, the project is set to conclude on 5 March 2025, aiming to enhance the safety and efficiency of air transportation in the region.
PBN is a state-of-the-art navigation system that relies on precision, integrity, and functional capabilities of aircraft equipment. It allows for optimized flight routes, reduced delays, and lower environmental impact by minimizing fuel consumption.
The project includes the implementation of PBN at key airports across Uzbekistan, including Tashkent, Urgench, Nukus, Andijan, Karshi, and Sariasia. This will enable more accurate aircraft maneuvering procedures based on navigation performance. Additionally, the initiative aims to optimize airspace classification and establish a unified transition altitude and flight level system throughout the country.
On 5 March 2025, a working meeting was held in Tashkent between the Director of GUP "Uzaeronavigation" and IATA Manager D.S. Kosolapov. The meeting reviewed the project’s progress and presented the achievements of the completed phases.
"The implementation of PBN is a significant milestone for the further development of Uzbekistan’s aviation sector. We are grateful to our partners at IATA for their support and expertise, which will help us elevate the safety and efficiency of air transport to a new level," stated a representative of GUP "Uzaeronavigation."
The PBN project in Uzbekistan marks an important step in the country’s integration into the global aviation network, ensuring compliance with international standards and enhancing the competitiveness of its national aviation industry.
