Uzbekistan has full authority to create own power system - envoy
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan has full authority to create own independent power system, Uzbek Ambassador to Tajkistan Shokasim Shoislomov said at the briefing dedicated to withdrawal of Uzbekistan from Central Asian power grid on Monday.

Uzbek envoy said that Uzbekistan will commission power line Guzar-Surkhon on 1 November and completes creation of energy circle. He said the country will withdraw from Central Asian power grid. Uzbek envoy said Uzbekistan will invest US$3.6 billion into power system next several years.

Shokasim Shoislomov said Uzbekistan is aware of Tajikistan’s difficulties with electricity supplies. He added that Uzbekistan will continue to supply electricity to northern regions of Tajikistan and Tajikistan will not return used electricity to Uzbekistan’s Surkhandarya region. He said this should allow to increase electricity consumption in Tajikistan, Avesta.tj reported.

Uzbek diplomat said Uzbekistan withdraws from Central Asian power grid as it believes there is no need for single regulation center, which for long period operated in Tashkent. He said the Central Asian power grid threatens to national power system of Uzbekistan and Uzbekistan withdraws from the system to ensure sustainability of own system.

Shoislomov said now Central Asian states will regulate activity of national power system in established order and in line with agreement between the countries.
