Uzbekistan-France: issues of further development of cooperation between the two countries discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of Uzbekistan headed by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis Tanzila Narbayeva was on an official visit to France. 

During the visit, a number of meetings were held, during which attention was paid to issues of trade, economic, social, cultural and humanitarian ties and inter-parliamentary cooperation between Uzbekistan and France. Thus, during a conversation with A. Rothschild, a member of the Supervisory Board of Rothschild & Co, the parties discussed current trends in the field of international investment and prospects for their implementation, including the possibility of effectively using the company’s experience in implementing programs for the privatization of the main assets of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

In turn, Baroness Ariel Malar de Rothschild confirmed the readiness of the Rothschild & Co financial group to continue to provide practical support to the progressive reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan, to take an active part in the transformation of the economy, including in addressing issues of systemic poverty reduction in the country.

As a result of the meeting, an agreement was reached to maintain constant mutual contacts in order to unconditionally ensure the implementation of projects for the privatization of state facilities and enterprises with the participation of Rothschild & Co.

During the visit, the delegation also met with the Executive Vice President of Total Eren, Fabien Demol. At the meeting, issues of developing the sphere of renewable sources in Uzbekistan were considered.

Indeed, today the widespread use of green energy is becoming increasingly important throughout the world. In particular, the successful commissioning of a 100 MW photovoltaic plant in the Nurabad district of the Samarkand region, which became the flagship project of Total Eren in Central Asia, was noted. The company’s commitment to expanding its presence in Uzbekistan through the implementation of new large-scale investment projects was expressed.

In particular, Ms. Fabien Demol stressed that the company is proud of the projects currently being implemented in Uzbekistan, and that such a successful experience of dialogue with Uzbekistan serves as the basis for stable cooperation for many years.

In addition, a meeting was held with the director of the French National Heritage Institute Charles Personnaz, during which issues of cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries were discussed.

Charles Personnaz highly appreciated the efforts made by the leadership of Uzbekistan to restore and preserve unique monuments of ancient architecture and culture, restore the rich material and cultural heritage of the country, and develop museum business.

During the dialogue, the importance of introducing the best practices of France in the field of restoration of cultural heritage sites in Uzbekistan was emphasized. In particular, emphasis was placed on improving the skills of local specialists with the involvement of leading experts from the Institute of National Heritage of France, holding joint practical seminars on the development of cultural heritage with the participation of leading experts from the two countries.

At the end of the meeting, an agreement was reached to increase human resources in the field of protection of cultural and art objects, as well as material and cultural heritage in Uzbekistan, to undergo special training for Uzbek archaeologists and restorers, as well as to obtain scientific and technical knowledge from the French National Heritage Institute.
