Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As part of the large international agricultural exhibition Green Week - 2023, which is currently taking place in Berlin, a delegation from Uzbekistan led by the Minister of Agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan Aziz Voitov is holding meetings to discuss topical issues of agricultural spheres.

Thus, a meeting was held with the Chief Economist of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), Maximo Torero Cullen, at which the sides discussed economic policy measures to increase the sustainability of the agricultural sector.

It should be noted that the FAO Representative Office has been operating in Tashkent since 2014. During the joint work between Uzbekistan and FAO, 55 projects worth US$55 million have been launched.

Uzbekistan is successfully implementing the new FAO Country Programming Framework for 2021-2025.

“We highly appreciate the FAO assistance in such areas as sustainable land use, food security, development of value chains, increasing the knowledge of farms, standardization and gender equality,” Aziz Voitov emphasized.

During the talks, the following issues were discussed:

- Reform of agriculture in Uzbekistan and improvement of the institutional architecture of sector management by the state.

- Exploring new financial instruments such as lending, leasing, insurance, agricultural subsidies.

- Mobilization of climate funds grant resources for Uzbekistan, due to the strong impact of climate change and development of proposals for work with the Green Climate Fund and the Global Environment Facility.

It was noted that in September 2023, the Global Conference on Food Security will be held in Samarkand in cooperation with the FAO.
