Uzbekistan exports coal to Tajikistan
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Shargunkumir open joint-stock company exported the first party of coal to Hatlon district of Tajikistan. Overall, the company signed agreement on supply of 70,000 tonnes of coal. The coal should supplied by 3 April 2010.

It is expected that Shargunkumir will earn US$3.5 million from this export agreement.

Shargunkumir open joint-stock company holds license to development of Baysun and Shargun coal deposits in Surkhandarya region, southern Uzbekistan. Total explored reserves are 45.8 million tonnes of coal.

Currently, Uzbekugol open joint-stock company, which produces 98% of coal in Uzbekistan, develops Angren lignite coal mine in Tashkent region with explored reserves of 1.9 billion tonnes.

According to estimates of experts, Uzbekistan consumes 4 million tonnes of coal annually. Main consumer of coal in Uzbekistan is Uzbekenergo state joint stock company, which consumes 3 million tonnes of coal.

Uzbek State Statistics Committee said Uzbekistan decreased coal production by 4.7% year-on-year in January-April 2009 to 1.078 million tonnes.
