Uzbekistan education ministry denies “summer pledge” claims

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Ministry of Preschool and School Education of Uzbekistan has denied reports alleging that schools are required to collect so-called guarantee letters from students for the summer holiday period.

The statement came in response to discussions on social media, where it was claimed that class teachers were being instructed to collect written undertakings from students. These alleged documents reportedly included commitments not to go outside after 8:00 p.m., not to visit computer clubs and entertainment venues without adult permission, and to follow traffic and fire safety rules.

The ministry stated that no such instructions or recommendations have been issued to territorial departments or educational institutions.

The agency emphasized that, even if such practices exist in isolated cases, they are not official requirements and are not based on any directives from the ministry.

It also noted that such measures cannot be considered mandatory instructions and may only reflect initiatives taken by individual schools or class teachers.
