Uzbekistan discusses agricultural cooperation with representatives from Türkiye and Azerbaijan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 12 February, Uzbekistan’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance, Ahadbek Haidarov, held negotiations with representatives of Türkiye’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, as well as executives from the agricultural insurance funds TARSIM (Türkiye) and Aqrar Sığorta Fondu (Azerbaijan).

The meeting was attended by Melih Özbulut from Türkiye’s Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, TARSIM General Director Bekir Engüroğlu, Deputy Director for International Relations and Reinsurance Bahar Demir Kimyon, and senior representatives from Azerbaijan’s Aqrar Sığorta Fondu, including Fuad Sadygov, Zaur Aliyev, and Shahin Huseynov. The Uzbek side was represented by experts from the Ministry of Economy and Finance and the Ministry of Agriculture.

A key focus of the discussions was the development of Uzbekistan’s agricultural insurance system, particularly in light of global climate change, which has increased the need for risk mitigation in the sector. Special attention was given to the drafting and adoption of Uzbekistan’s Law on Agricultural Risk Insurance, along with supporting regulatory acts.

The parties reviewed the steps required to implement agricultural insurance after the law’s enactment, the training of qualified specialists, and potential challenges in establishing the system. In this regard, the Turkish and Azerbaijani partners expressed their readiness to share their expertise and assist in designing effective insurance mechanisms.

An agreement was reached on capacity-building initiatives: the Turkish side will organize a series of training seminars and workshops for specialists from Uzbekistan’s relevant ministries.

At the conclusion of the meeting, all parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and supporting joint initiatives aimed at advancing agricultural insurance in Uzbekistan.
