Uzbekistan directs over 1.5 billion soums to support Kyrgyz refugees
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Currently, number of refugees, who were placed in tent camps in Ferghana Valley, reached 75,000. The government of Uzbekistan spent over 1.5 billion soums to support refugees within three days, Uzbek First Deputy Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov said.

The events in Kyrgyz Republic are wide-scale and unexampled and differs with cruelty. Many observers evaluate it as slaughter, ethnic cleaning and genocide, Jahon news agency of the Uzbek Foreign Ministry reported. The mass bloodshed has organized character, which was also acknowledged by the interim Kyrgyz Government.

The report said at the same time, the interim Kyrgyz Government displayed absolute helplessness against actions of gangsters. There is no doubt that third powers are behind the events as large amount of weapon, use of mercenaries and professional snipers can serve as evidence for that. The gangsters used special bullets, which can set fire at houses from long-distances.

Uzbekistan continues to render assistance to refugees, but their number is increasing. Taking into account serious difficulties, the Uzbek side directed official appeal to the UN Secretary-General and other international organizations in order to attract humanitarian aid, Kamilov said.

The report said unfortunately, currently humanitarian cargoes of international organizations are not directed purposefully and the aid stuck in Bishkek.

International organizations, such as UNICEF, World Health Organization and ICRC, confirmed cruelty against the Uzbek community in southern regions of Uzbekistan, the report said.

UN resident coordinator in Uzbekistan Anita Nirodi expressed serious concern with events in the southern Kyrgyzstan, in the result of which thousands of people flee to Uzbekistan.

She underlined that the UN highly evaluated fast and resolute measures of the Government of Uzbekistan to assist people, who fled to Uzbekistan.

Nirodi said that the UN mission visited refugee camp in Andijan and saw the large number of refugees, majority of them is women and children. She said there were wounded and they received medical treatment.

The UN official underlined that the Uzbek government provided humanitarian assistance to refugees in large number of camps, which were created within several hours. She said the refugees are still arriving.

Anita Nirodi said the UNICEF sent seven cargo containers with various products, while UNHCR offered help and the Uzbek Government accepted it.

The WHO sent three containers with blankets and its specialists will provide medical aid, she said. Nirodi said the other UN agencies are considering ways of rendering assistance.

UNICEF Representative in Uzbekistan Jean-Michel Delmotte noted that he received chance to see fleeing refugees, among which were manly children and women. He added that he saw that refugees received necessary assistance, in particular, security, shelter, food and others. UNICEF representative hailed the efforts of Uzbekistan. He said some refugees were able to shoot violence.

Jean-Michel Delmotte said six UNICEF employees are in Andijan now to help in places. He said international community should help Uzbekistan. He said the US Embassy already provided help.

WHO representative Tayyad praised efforts of Uzbekistan in providing medical service to refugees, but reserves of Health Ministry are ending. WHO official said it is necessary to develops ways to assist the Uzbek side.
