Uzbekistan Delegation Holds Talks with Leaders of Pakistan’s Textile Industry
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — A delegation comprising representatives from the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan, the Association “Uzto’qimachiliksanoat,” and entrepreneurs from Uzbekistan is currently visiting Pakistan.
During the visit, meetings were held with the leadership of the country’s leading textile sector organization — the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (APTMA) — as well as with the major industrial company Sapphire Textile.
APTMA unites over 400 enterprises, accounting for 67% of the country’s textile exports (approximately US$13 billion). The textile industry contributes 8.5% to Pakistan’s GDP and provides employment for about 25 million people.
The discussions focused on innovation directions, workforce development, and international cooperation.
The delegation also held talks with Sapphire Textile, a company specializing in the production of fabrics, home textiles, and ready-made garments. The company employs around 30,000 people. It produces 54,000 tons of yarn and 90 million square meters of fabric annually. Its products are exported to more than 35 countries, including the United States and European Union member states.
Sapphire employs renewable energy sources and water-saving technologies in its production processes and holds several international certifications (OEKO-TEX, GOTS, BCI, among others). Key clients include major brands such as Zara, H&M, and Walmart.
Following the meeting, the company expressed interest in implementing an investment project in Uzbekistan, and a memorandum of understanding was signed.
