Uzbekistan defeat dents Thailand’s hopes
Both Tamarine Tanasguran and Suchanan Viratprasert lost their singles matches, with Thailand only gaining a consolation win in the doubles.
Thailand had won their opening match against Hong Kong.
Suchanan began well against Iroda Tulyaganova and took the first set with surprising ease 6-2.
But it was a differnet story in the next two sets and the Uzbek player totally dominated Suchanan who could only win one more game as Tulyaganova finished off the match 6-1, 6-0.
It didn’t get any better for Thailand when Tamarine lost to Akgul Amanmuradova 6-3, 4-6, 6-2.
The Uzbek player took the opening set but Tamarine fought back well to win the second.
Unfortunately Tamarine could not maintain the momentum and went down 6-2 in the third set as Uzbekistan clinched victory.
In the doubles, Tamarine and Napaporn Tongsalee defeated the Uzbek duo, Vlada Ekshibarova and Albina Khabibulina 7-5, 6-4.
A disappointed Tamarine praised the Uzbeks performance.
They played very well,’’ she said.
Tamarine said she thought she had a chance in her match when she won the second set as her opponent was making many errors.
’’But she recoverd well and was too good in the final set. I tried my best but she played really well.’’
Tamarine said today’s match against Tiawan would be very tough. ’’They have good players both in singles and doubles and they are more experienced than our team.’’
She said Thailand’s only chance of making the final was if Hong Kong upset Uzbekistan and Thailand won all three games against Taiwan.
