Uzbekistan customs officers seize over 80kg of drugs in 2010
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan customs officers stopped 61 attempts to smug drugs and seized over 80 kg of drugs in past period of 2010, the Uzbekistan State Customs Committee said.

During operation in Surkhandarya region in cooperation with other law enforcement bodies, customs officers detain citizen of the region J. Irgashev. During check, the officers detained 40 kg of opium. Detainee said he purchased dugs from Afghan citizen.

Other Afghan citizen H.Kurbon was detained when he tried to pass Amudarya river on leather boat in border area. He was smuggling 5 kg of opium.

At S.Nadjimov customs post in Tashkent regions, young man was arrested with 300 grams of marihuana. A. Nurkiev was returning to Uzbekistan from neighbouring state.

During inspection of houses of F. Fayziev and D. Yarashev in Bekabad district of Tashkent region, law enforcement bodies found large among of marihuana and poppy straw.

Investigations are underway within all above mentioned cases.

Uzbekistan State Customs Committee underlined that its officers have detained about 30 tonnes of drugs since independence of Uzbekistan. Among them are opium, marihuana, heroin, hashish and others.
