Uzbekistan creates techno park in sericulture
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan started to implement a project on creation of techno park, which will specialize on production of silk Vodiy Ipagi (Valley Silk). The project is implemented on the base of former Atlas joint stock company.

This is the first such large scale project in the industry. The project envisages to create full production circle – from growing mulberry trees to production of silk fabrics. The project implementation started in 2009. Bankrupt Atlas JSC was handed over to balance of National Bank for Foreign Economic Activity of Uzbekistan.

The investments for about 5 billion soums, directed to production, allowed to rehabilitate 650 jobs at the enterprise.

Due to technologic modernization, the enterprise exported goods for US$360,000 and nine months of 2011, the enterprise produced 3.2 billion soums.

Birja newspaper reported that Singaporean company plans to invest US$10 million to modernization of techno park in 2012-2015.

In the result, Vodiy Ipagi will be able to process up to 240 tonnes of silk fiber and produce up to 2 million meters of silk fabrics a year. After reaching full capacity, the exports volume will hit about US$9 million.

Production circle of techno park started with planting mulberry trees. Currently, 60 hectares were allocated for this project, 10 hectares in Namangan district and 50 hectares in Pap district of Namangan region. By the end of the project, mulberry trees plantation area will reach 200 hectares.

In Namangan, the production capacities at 18.5 hectares will process raw silk to fibers. After that it is planned to launch fabrics production line. Some 700 jobs will be created within the project.
