Uzbekistan country platform: Progress in the Implementation of "Strategy-2030"

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The third meeting of the Uzbekistan Country Platform brought together over 80 representatives from the government of Uzbekistan and international partners in Tashkent.

During the meeting, participants discussed progress achieved by three working groups, which focused on key areas of Uzbekistan’s development: water resources, water supply and sanitation, transportation, and urban and rural development.

The working group on water resources, water supply, and sanitation presented results on the implementation of integrated water resources management principles and shared future plans to provide the population with access to clean drinking water and sanitation services for health security.

The transport working group highlighted progress in providing safe and quality transport services for passengers across the country, emphasizing the shift towards efficient and environmentally friendly modes of transportation. Transport experts from government institutions and international organizations discussed investments aimed at creating infrastructure that meets global standards, as well as the importance of the recently approved “Railway Transport Law” by the Senate.

The urban and rural development working group showcased recent reforms, including the adoption of the new “Urban Planning Code” and the development of various documents for the planning of urban and rural settlements.

The Uzbekistan Country Platform is co-chaired by the Agency for Strategic Reforms under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Economy and Finance of Uzbekistan. Bringing together all major stakeholders, the platform helps ensure the efficient distribution of technical and financial assistance to achieve the goals of "Strategy-2030."

Abdulla Abdukodirov, First Deputy Director of the Agency for Strategic Reforms, remarked, “Effective cooperation between development partners and the government is critical to implementing the key reform priorities set by President Mirziyoyev, aimed at building a more prosperous and sustainable future for all. The Agency for Strategic Reforms plays a central role in coordinating the interaction between international financial institutions, ministries, agencies, and development partners, ensuring the successful implementation of the ‘roadmap’ approved by Presidential Decree No. 109, while also enhancing transparency and accountability in public administration.”

The European Union (EU) is a leading international partner, providing secretarial support to the Country Platform through 2025. His Excellency Toivo Klaar, EU Ambassador to Uzbekistan, emphasized that “through technical assistance, grants, and support for the Country Platform, the EU helps advance the government’s ambitious reform agenda. Greater dialogue between the government and development partners leads to more effective and timely achievement of the expected outcomes.”

Participants in the Country Platform agreed to continue collaboration within 13 sectoral working groups, which support the priorities of "Strategy-2030" in areas such as agriculture, energy security, and the rule of law, to advance reforms for the benefit of the people of Uzbekistan.
