Uzbekistan can save 2.53 bn K.W.H. of electricity a year on energy saving lumps
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Introduction of energy saving lamps can allow Uzbekistan to save about US$50.6 million a year, Enlighten-Initiative, a project of the UNEP, Osram and Philips said.

In line with the report of the project on Uzbekistan, the energy saving lamps can help consumers in Uzbekistan to save up to 2.53 billion K.W.H. of electricity a year. In line with the project data, this volume is equal to annual production of one medium size coal-fired power plant with the capacity of 500 megawatt.

Transfer from energy saving lamps will help Uzbekistan to cut greenhouse emissions up to 1.1 million tonnes of CO2-equivallent a year, which is equal to emission of 275,000 mid-size cars. The report said that annual energy and cost saving in Uzbekistan will make up about 77%.

At the same time, transfer from ordinary lamps to energy saving ones can cost Uzbekistan for about US$202.2 million.

Uzbekistan carried out some work on launch of production of energy saving lumps. In September 2010, the Uzbek-British joint venture Neo Sun Light on production of energy saving lamps has been launched. Total investments on this project will make up US$3.4 million.

In October 2010, Uzbekenergo and South Korea’s Semi Lighting Co. Ltd inked a memorandum on creation of joint venture on production of energy-saving light-emitting diode (LED) lamps.

Other Korean company Shinhwa Lighting is working on project on organization of production of energy saving lamps in Navoi free industrial and economic zone.
