Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The State Committee for Ecology and Environmental Protection of Uzbekistan proposes to introduce environmental fees for groups of produced and imported goods from 2019, which harm the environment after they lose consumer properties.

The committee published a draft resolution of the President of Uzbekistan “On measures to improve economic mechanisms for ensuring environmental protection” for discussion.

The document is aimed at improving the environmental situation in Uzbekistan, preventing the harmful effects of waste on human health, encouraging the collection, storage, transportation, utilization, processing and disposal of domestic waste.

In particular, the draft resolution proposes to charge fees for eight groups of goods. The list includes lubricating oils, tires, rubber chambers, bottles and jars, primary cells and primary batteries, lamps, products for transportation or packaging of goods, of plastics, and others.

According to the document, depending on the goods, the amount of the environmental fee will be from 1.4 to 12.6 times the minimum wage per ton.

The Foundation for Ecology, Environmental Protection and Waste Management will accumulate funds from environmental charges.

The Fund will send resources to finance activities in the field of waste management, as well as other goals related to the implementation of tasks and functions assigned to the State Committee for Environmental Protection.
