Uzbekistan, Armenia discuss issues of cooperation in the agricultural sector

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, on 3 August, Minister of Agriculture Aziz Voitov met with a delegation led by Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia Vagan Kerobyan.

During the consultations, issues of cooperation on a number of points of contact in the agro-industrial complex of the two countries and the use of untapped potential and opportunities in agriculture were discussed.

Aziz Voitov stressed that in recent years, consistent reforms have been carried out in Uzbekistan to introduce market mechanisms, develop modern management systems and increase the export potential of the industry. It is noted that the legal basis in the process of reform and transformation is the strategy for the development of agriculture of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2020-2030.

The point of view was voiced, according to which today our country, according to experts, occupies a leading position in the export of agricultural products, but at present the indicators of mutual trade in agricultural products between Tashkent and Yerevan remain at an unsatisfactory level. The Ministry of Agriculture expressed its readiness to increase the supply of confectionery products to Armenia and increase the volume of exports of the industry's products. During the meeting, it was also emphasized that in recent years, special attention has been paid to financing and subsidizing agriculture, as one of the main areas of the economy of Uzbekistan.

In particular, today the state allocates more than 40 types of subsidies in the agricultural and food sectors. 26 of them are distributed through the "Agrosubsidy" system, which ensures a transparent transfer of funds to the applicant. Aziz Voitov made it clear to his Armenian colleagues that the Ministry of Agriculture is ready to share its experience in developing relevant legislation, determining the necessary types of subsidies and digitizing the entire process. In order to create a permanent platform for regular discussion of the current state of cooperation, a proposal was made to establish a working group Uzbekistan-Armenia.

In turn, the Minister of Economy of the Republic of Armenia Vagan Kerobyan noted that quite significant results can be achieved by intensifying contacts in the agricultural sector. The meeting also discussed issues of increasing income by synchronizing work in the field of viticulture, winemaking and the production of alcoholic beverages. An opinion was also voiced on the organization of a business tour to Armenia for the further development of winemaking and viticulture.

Armenia has also been invited to a high-level international conference to be held in Samarkand on 7-8 September this year in cooperation with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO). After that, a presentation of works and promising projects in the field of digitalization of agriculture in our republic was held at the Ministry of Agriculture of Uzbekistan especially for the Armenian delegation.

During which, Deputy Minister of Agriculture Kakhramon Yuldashev spoke in detail about the history of the beginning of the digitalization of the sphere, the projects currently being implemented and the results achieved.

In addition, the guests were introduced to the information systems "Geoportal of Agriculture", "CropAgro", "E-IJARA", "Agrosubsidy" and demonstrated their capabilities online. As part of the dialogue, it was noted that agricultural land in Armenia is privately owned, the processes of planting crops are carried out independently, and at the same time, a single database on agricultural land and arable land has not been formed.

At the end of the presentation, the guests stressed that significant work had been done in the agricultural sector of Uzbekistan and expressed their readiness to share the experience of Armenia and develop mutual long-term cooperation.
