Uzbekistan announces 15 new hydrocarbon fields

As a result of geological surveys, 15 hydrocarbon fields were discovered in Uzbekistan in 2008, nearly twice as many as in the previous year, the national oil and gas holding Uzbekneftegaz said in a statement.
The holding’s companies launched exploration drilling on 18 new sites and completed the construction of 121 wells, 0.8% above the forecast.
Meanwhile, foreign companies operating in the country began exploration drilling on 14 new sites.
On the whole, the total number of exploration and development wells drilled by Uzbekneftegaz and foreign companies exceeded the target by 12.6%.
