Uzbekistan and the IWMI discuss cooperation on water use and innovation
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 3 March, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Bahromjon Aloyev met with Barbara Janusz-Pawletta, head of the International Water Management Institute (IWMI) representation in Uzbekistan, to discuss bilateral cooperation in the water sector.
The discussions focused on sustainable water management and agricultural development, with an emphasis on joint projects aimed at improving water efficiency, water quality, and the adoption of advanced technologies in Uzbekistan’s agricultural sector. Given the country’s limited water resources, Uzbekistan is keen on leveraging international expertise and innovations to address key environmental and economic challenges.
A major topic of the meeting was strengthening collaboration between Uzbekistan’s academic and research institutions and IWMI. Both sides agreed to enhance knowledge exchange and capacity-building programs, ensuring the implementation of best global practices in water resource management.
Uzbekistan’s partnership with IWMI plays a crucial role in its climate adaptation strategy and sustainable agricultural development. Several agreements are expected to be signed soon, paving the way for practical implementation of joint initiatives.
This visit highlights Uzbekistan’s commitment to international cooperation in tackling global environmental challenges and reinforces its position as an active participant in sustainable development efforts in Central Asia.
