Uzbekistan and Singapore: agreements reached on the implementation of large investment projects

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- As part of the visit of the delegation of Uzbekistan to Singapore, meetings are being held with leaders of large businesses in this country. In particular, on 14 January, Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov met with Prakash Kezhrival, Director of Indorama Corporation. During the talks, issues of further deepening cooperation were discussed.

The company owns 39 production facilities in 22 countries of the world, is the No. 1 yarn manufacturer in Asia, with 26% of the volume produced in Uzbekistan, as well as polyester, synthetic fabrics, chemical fertilizers and other products in demand on the world market.

In Uzbekistan, the Singaporean company Indorama Corporation has established and successfully operates a cotton yarn production enterprise in Kokand, a textile cluster for the production of yarn and finished textile products in the Kashkadarya and Syrdarya regions, as well as a plant for the production of superphosphates and ammonia.

During the dialogue, promising areas for increasing cooperation were considered, bearing in mind the attraction to Uzbekistan of advanced experience in managing small industrial textile zones, the construction of a biotechnological factory, the expansion of networks of biological laboratories, and others.

The Singapore side highly appreciated the rapid development of Uzbekistan, the effectiveness of the ongoing reforms. Thanks to a systematic approach, it was noted that it became possible to lift the boycott by the Cotton campaign coalition and obtain Uzbekistan the status of a beneficiary of the GSP + European Preference System, which, in turn, had a positive impact on the growth dynamics of exports of finished textile products. In this regard, the interest of the company’s management in continuing the partnership is great.

At the meeting, an Agreement on strategic cooperation was signed, which provides for the implementation of new projects in the textile and chemical industries.

During the talks with the chairman of the Meinhardt group Shahzad Naseem, the issue of implementing joint projects, including infrastructure ones, on the principles of public-private partnership was discussed.

Meinhardt group is the largest engineering and investment company in Singapore. She took part in the construction of 510 large infrastructure and industrial facilities around the world, the number of employees is 5 thousand people.

The management of the Singaporean company was presented with a detailed presentation of promising projects proposed for joint development. As a result of the discussion, the parties reached an agreement on the establishment of a joint Design and Engineering Center.

The main task of the center will be the implementation of urban planning and industrial initiatives. We are talking about the design of the master plan for the first stage of the construction of the "smart" city "Yangi Toshkent", a number of industrial enterprises for the production of chemical and pharmaceutical products. Training of personnel for the Center will be carried out by the Singapore side.

As a result of the meetings, further steps were outlined for the practical implementation of the voiced initiatives and projects.
