Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 14 March, a meeting took place in the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan with a delegation from the Russian Federation led by Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly. The visit of the high-ranking Russian parliamentarian marked an important step in strengthening inter-parliamentary ties between the two countries.

Senate Chairperson Tanzila Narbaeva warmly welcomed the guests, emphasizing the significance of the visit for further developing bilateral relations. "This working visit is an important step toward continuing inter-parliamentary cooperation at a new level," she noted.

One of the key topics of the meeting was the discussion of tasks facing the parliaments of both countries. The participants highlighted the necessity of creating a solid legislative framework to implement the agreements reached at the highest level between Uzbekistan and Russia. "This meeting is a favorable opportunity for an active dialogue aimed at achieving goals that meet the interests of our peoples," stated Tanzila Narbaeva.

Today, Uzbek-Russian relations have reached the level of a multifaceted strategic alliance and reliable partnership. A significant role in this is played by the tasks set by the presidents of the two countries and their consistent implementation.

Economic cooperation is also showing positive dynamics. As noted at the meeting, mutual trade turnover between Uzbekistan and Russia increased by 15% in 2022, reaching 12 billion US dollars.

Special attention was given to migration issues. The parties discussed current tasks in this area and emphasized the importance of jointly seeking lawful solutions to protect the rights and interests of citizens of both countries.

Inter-parliamentary cooperation remains an important element of bilateral relations. The participants noted that close cooperation between the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Russia helps strengthen trust and the development of strategic partnership.

"A joint commission operates between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and the Federal Council of the Russian Federation. Regular meetings of the leaders of the upper chambers of the two countries yield results," Tanzila Narbaeva emphasized.

Vyacheslav Volodin, in turn, expressed gratitude for the warm reception and confirmed Russia's interest in strengthening its partnership with Uzbekistan. "We consider Uzbekistan one of Russia's top 10 reliable partners and support the policy of strong friendship and trust-based partnership between our countries. We are interested in the consistent and effective work of our parliaments," he stated.

During the meeting, the parties also discussed prospects for further strengthening relations, monitoring the implementation of the agreements reached, exchanging experience in legislation, and intensifying contacts with members of the Youth Parliament.

The Uzbek side expressed hope for active participation by Russian parliamentarians in the events of the 150th anniversary assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary Union, which will soon take place in Tashkent.
