Uzbekistan and Russia hold the first meeting of the Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 February 2024, the first meeting of the Interparliamentary Commission on Cooperation of the State Duma of the Russian Federation and the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held in Moscow.

The meeting was chaired by Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin and Chairman of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis Nuriddin Ismoilov.

At the meeting, issues of developing economic integration in the Eurasian space, improving the healthcare system and the situation in the field of labor migration were discussed.

Vyacheslav Volodin emphasized the need to actively develop inter-parliamentary interaction, search for new forms of cooperation and fill the work of friendship groups and the Interparliamentary Commission with specific content that meets the needs of citizens of both countries.

Nuriddin Ismoilov also supported the idea of improving inter-parliamentary cooperation and noted the importance of making parliamentary contributions to resolving issues. Both sides expressed their readiness to act to support decisions taken at the level of heads of state.

Vyacheslav Volodin noted that Uzbekistan is one of the ten leading trade and economic partners of Russia, and the number of students from Uzbekistan studying in Russia reaches 53 thousand. He also emphasized the growing interest of Russians in visiting Uzbekistan and the activity of citizens of Uzbekistan coming to Russia to work. The number of Russians who wanted to visit Uzbekistan increased by 30% in 2023, amounting to about 714 thousand people.

Vyacheslav Volodin noted that the largest number of citizens of Uzbekistan come to Russia to work - 6 million people. “It is very important for us that those who come know the Russian language and respect our culture, traditions, and history,” he emphasized.

Vyacheslav Volodin and Nuriddin Ismoilov emphasized the importance of cultural, educational ties and maintaining friendly relations between the peoples of both countries.

Vyacheslav Volodin invited his Uzbek colleague to the international forum “Development of Parliamentarism”.

The agreement on the creation of the Interparliamentary Commission was signed on 28 November 2022 during the official visit of Vyacheslav Volodin to Uzbekistan.
