Uzbekistan and Russia discuss issues of cooperation in the field of phytosanitary

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Director General of the Agency for Quarantine and Plant Protection of Uzbekistan Ibrokhim Ergashev held talks with the head of Rosselkhoznadzor Sergei Dankvert in Moscow.

The issues of integration of the FSIS “Argus-Fito” and AIS “e-Fitouz” information systems were discussed, as well as the coordination of draft Agreements on digital cooperation in the field of phytosanitary and a road map for the development of cooperation for 2024-2025.

The parties noted that the potential of mutual trade is much wider, and its implementation can be accelerated through specific mechanisms for simplifying supply conditions and digitalization of supervisory activities. Integration of information systems of Rosselkhoznadzor and the Agency for Quarantine and Plant Protection of Uzbekistan will facilitate control procedures, introduce a risk-based approach and make bilateral trade more transparent.

The visit of the Uzbek delegation to Russia on 19 May was also discussed. During the stay, the delegation got acquainted with the activities of temporary storage warehouses, wholesale distribution centers and large retail chains in Novosibirsk, Ufa and Moscow. Negotiations were held with their leadership to increase the volume of supplies of Uzbek agricultural products to Russia.

Supplies of fruits and vegetables from Uzbekistan are growing annually by 20-30%, and Uzbekistan’s share in the import of these goods to Russia is 10%. Since the beginning of 2024, about 156 thousand tons of fruit and vegetable products have been imported into Russia, which is 26% more than the same period in 2023, when 124 thousand tons were supplied.

Particularly significant growth occurred in such crops as white cabbage (4 times, from 18 thousand tons to 72 thousand tons), fresh persimmon (6.2 times, from 233 tons to 1.5 thousand tons), cauliflower cabbage (2.2 times, from 2.6 thousand tons to 5.8 thousand tons) and fresh carrots (3.4 times, from 3.4 thousand tons to 11.5 thousand tons).

In conclusion, the parties noted the progressive development of business relations between the countries and identified steps to strengthen working contacts and support mutually beneficial trade.
