Uzbekistan and Russia continue negotiations on gas transit

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Further talks are underway between Uzbekistan and Russia regarding the transit of Russian gas to Uzbekistan through Kazakhstan. Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov informed about this in an interview with Energy Intelligence.

“We continue to work in accordance with our action plan, exploring the possibilities of transit and resolving technical issues. As soon as the technical aspects are settled, we will start discussing commercial terms,” the minister said.

On 28 November 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed the creation of a "triple gas union" between Russia, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan with Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.

Later, Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov said that Uzbekistan intends to import gas on the basis of commercial contracts. He stressed that the country does not need to participate in "any kind of alliance or union" to buy gas.

On 25 January 2023, it became known that Gazprom could start delivering gas in transit through Kazakhstan to Uzbekistan, which is experiencing a shortage, via the Central Asia-Center pipeline. Tashkent assures that there is no talk of transferring the Uzbek gas transmission system to Gazprom.
