The statement said that the Philippine delegation was led by Foreign Affairs Undersecretary Jose Brillantes.

The sides exchanged opinion on perspectives of developing bilateral relations, including issues of cooperation in politics, expansion of partnership in trade-economic, investment and cultural-humanitarian spheres, as well as regional and international problems of mutual interest.

The sides discussed situation in Central and Southern-Eastern Asia, recent events in Northern Africa and Middle East, perspectives of settlement of situation in Afghanistan.

During the meeting, the officials considered interaction within the United Nations and other international organizations such as ASEAN, Asia-Middle East Dialogue and Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC).

The sides underlined importance of cooperation in fighting new security threats and challenges, such as terrorism, organized crime, extremism and drug business.

The Uzbek side took into account intention of the Philippine side to obtain observer status at the OIC and expressed hope for settlement of situation in the south of Philippines.

The Philippine side underlined that two countries, despite their geographical remoteness, have great untapped potential for developing trade-economic cooperation and expanding interactions between financial institutions.

The sides also deemed it expedient to strengthen legal base of cooperation, which would serve as guarantee for boosting of cooperation in various areas.

The sides agreed to study opportunities on exchange of experience in training and re-training of diplomatic cadres at state institutions of two states, deepening interaction in scientific-technical, cultural-humanitarian and tourism spheres.

After the discussions, the sides signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperation and bilateral consultations between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Department of Foreign Affairs of the Philippines.
