Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 28 January, a meeting took place in Riga between Olympjon Abdullaev, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, and Baiba Braže, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Latvia, along with Agnesa Kalniņa, Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Latvia. During the discussions, the parties talked about a draft Migration Agreement, which aims to simplify the visa regime for Uzbek citizens.

The participants emphasized the importance of bilateral cooperation in labor migration and agreed to establish a permanent dialogue, including regular consultations.

The Latvian side highlighted the significance of Uzbekistan as a key partner in Central Asia and expressed confidence in the prospects for further migration cooperation.

As a result of the negotiations, an agreement was reached to hold consular consultations between the relevant departments of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries later this year.
