Uzbekistan and JBIC Set to Deepen Cooperation in Green Economy and Infrastructure

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 12 June, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan Jamshid Kuchkarov held a meeting with a delegation from the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC), headed by the bank’s President, Nobumitsu Hayashi.

The meeting was also attended by Ken Imai, Head of JBIC’s Moscow Representative Office, Deputy Minister of Economy and Finance Otabek Fozilkarimov, Ministerial Advisor Jasur Karshibaev, as well as representatives of relevant Uzbek agencies.

For reference: The Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) is a state-owned financial institution established in 1999. It supports Japanese companies abroad and participates in the financing of international economic and infrastructure projects. As of 2023, JBIC’s total assets exceeded USD 150 billion.

During the talks, the parties discussed current macroeconomic trends in Uzbekistan, development priorities for the green economy, acceleration of infrastructure initiatives, and support measures for the IT sector, artificial intelligence, and small business.

Special attention was given to strengthening mutually beneficial cooperation, including the implementation of promising projects in key sectors of the economy. One of the central topics was the expansion of public-private partnership (PPP) mechanisms. Specific areas of cooperation were identified, including the construction of modern regional hospitals equipped with advanced technologies, modernization of power supply systems, introduction of innovative infrastructure solutions, development of sustainable water and heat supply systems, and the construction of modern highways.

At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to deepening the partnership and expressed their intention to continue systematic and productive work to advance joint initiatives aimed at sustainable economic growth and the modernization of Uzbekistan’s key industries.
