Uzbekistan and India discuss trade-economic relations
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The ninth session of the Uzbek-Indian intergovernmental commission on trade-economic and scientific-technical cooperation was held in Tashkent on 4 May 2011.

Representatives of ministries, departments, firms and companies of two countries, working in such sectors as trade, investment, IT and telecommunication, pharmaceuticals, tourism, food and textile industries, and other participated at the event.

Indian companies are expressing great interest in investing to Uzbek economy, including to such sectors as pharmaceuticals, textile, automobile and tourism. The sides are also interested in expanding cooperation in developing small businesses, oil and gas sector, mining, geology, machinery, textile industry, healthcare, science, IT and others.

Pradit Kumar Chaudheri, deputy minister of trade and industry of Uzbekistan, said that the Uzbek-Indian relations are based on historic, cultural and spiritual closeness of two nations. He said that India is happy for gradual development of relations.

He added that the current session of the commission is good opportunity to discuss perspectives of further strengthening constructive cooperation.

The session noted that Uzbekistan is achieving high economic growth in the context of the global economic and financial crisis, which attracts foreign investors.

Director of Geefcee Group Tarun Goyal said that the company is interested in expanding tourism companies as Uzbekistan has great potential in the sector. Uzbekistan has such ancient cities as Samarkand, Bukhara, Tashkent and Khiva, as well as unique monuments.

The session discussed perspectives of further developing trade-economic cooperation between Uzbekistan and India, including in such sectors as small and private business, fuel-energy, machinery, textile, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, tourism, etc. They also considered boosting bilateral trade turnover and increasing number of joint ventures, as well as implementation of mutual beneficial projects.

The delegation of India also held negotiations at the ministries and departments of Uzbekistan, UzA reported.
