Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  On 4 December 2024, the President of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, met with Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The discussions focused on opportunities to deepen bilateral cooperation and explore new practical avenues for collaboration.

Uzbekistan has been a member of the IAEA since 1994, during which more than 40 joint projects involving technical assistance from the agency have been implemented. Currently, five projects are underway in Uzbekistan, covering areas such as improving the legal framework, advancing nuclear science, and enhancing medical applications.

President Mirziyoyev commended the outcomes of meetings and activities conducted by the IAEA delegation in Uzbek ministries and research institutions. He also highlighted the significance of the upcoming International Conference on the Use of Atomic Energy, set to take place on December 5 in Samarkand, with the participation of leading industry experts.

Priority areas for future cooperation include strengthening the competencies and capabilities of national agencies, training highly qualified personnel, and pursuing projects in nuclear energy, agriculture, water management, healthcare, and environmental protection under IAEA programs.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to adopt a joint roadmap to expand multifaceted cooperation in the field of peaceful nuclear development.
