Uzbekistan and France etablish strategic partnership
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Following the negotiations held in Paris, the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, and the President of the French Republic, Emmanuel Macron, adopted a Joint Declaration formalizing the establishment of a strategic partnership between the two countries.
As part of the visit, an intergovernmental agreement regulating the mobility of professionals and students was exchanged in the presence of the two leaders.
Additionally, several important bilateral agreements aimed at expanding cooperation in various fields were signed. Notably, an intergovernmental agreement on the creation of the Uzbek-French University was concluded, opening new prospects for educational collaboration.
The parties also signed a readmission agreement and a cooperation program in investment and innovation, under which major projects worth €6.5 billion will be implemented in Uzbekistan in partnership with leading French companies.
Furthermore, a cooperation program between the foreign ministries for 2025–2026 was approved, as well as a program of collaboration with the French Development Agency for the period 2026–2030.
A key step was the signing of an intergovernmental agreement on visa exemptions for holders of diplomatic passports, which will facilitate bilateral exchanges.
Particular attention was given to cooperation within international organizations, which was reflected in the signed declaration. An agreement was also reached to expand the partnership in the healthcare sector.
To deepen cultural ties, agreements were signed on cooperation in music, cinema, and theater, along with a protocol to enhance French language education.
Uzbekistan’s Culture and Arts Development Foundation signed agreements with France’s Ministry of Culture, the National Institute of Cultural Heritage, and the French Institute for Central Asian Studies. Another significant development was the signing of a protocol on establishing partnership relations between the capitals of the two countries, Tashkent and Paris, which will open new opportunities for intermunicipal cooperation.
In addition, other bilateral agreements were signed during the visit to further strengthen Uzbek-French collaboration.
