Uzbekistan and China discuss the establishment of the SCO Development Bank
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — On 30 May 2025, a bilateral online meeting took place between representatives of the Ministry of Economy and Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Ministry of Finance of the People’s Republic of China.
From Uzbekistan, the negotiations were attended by Shukhrat Matkarimov, Deputy Director of the Department of International Relations, while from China, Zhang Bo, Deputy General Director of the Department of International Economic and Financial Cooperation, participated.
During the discussions, the primary focus was on the creation of the Development Bank of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO). The parties thoroughly examined the structure, authorities, areas of activity, and financing mechanisms of the new financial institution planned for establishment.
Uzbekistan emphasized that this initiative would serve as an important platform to deepen investment cooperation within the SCO framework, facilitate the implementation of regional infrastructure projects, and ensure sustainable economic growth.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the parties agreed to continue consultations at the level of relevant departments and SCO experts.
