Uzbekistan and China complete WTO accession negotiations

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) —  Uzbekistan has concluded bilateral negotiations with China regarding its accession to the World Trade Organization (WTO). This was reported by Azizbek Urunov, the special representative of the President of Uzbekistan on WTO matters, on his LinkedIn page.

Urunov noted that the Uzbek delegation visited Beijing, where they successfully concluded negotiations with the Chinese side on the country’s WTO membership.

He expressed gratitude to the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China, Deputy Minister Li Fei, Director Li Defeng, and their entire team for their cooperation.

"This year marks the completion of an important phase — negotiations with two of the world’s largest trade players, the United States and China," Urunov added.

He also emphasized that Uzbekistan has concluded bilateral negotiations with 22 countries and continues working with several others to finalize agreements.

Earlier in November 2024, it was reported that Uzbekistan had already completed bilateral negotiations with the United States regarding its WTO accession.

It was also noted that Uzbekistan plans to become a member of the WTO before the 14th Ministerial Conference, which will be held in Cameroon in 2026.

According to the World Bank, Uzbekistan’s WTO accession could stimulate economic growth by 17% within 5-7 years of membership.
