Uzbekistan allows legal entities to pay utility bills via mobile apps

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Legal entities in Uzbekistan will now be allowed to pay their utility bills online through mobile apps. The relevant order from the Chairman of the Central Bank was registered by the Ministry of Justice on 13 March.

According to the document, changes have been made to the Regulation on the Issuance and Circulation of Bank Cards in Uzbekistan, approved by the regulator's board decision in April 2021.

Now, legal entities will be able to pay for electricity and natural gas using corporate bank cards in the national currency through mobile applications.

The December 2024 road map, approved by the presidential decree, included a system for legal entities to pay for electricity through corporate cards in mobile apps.

The Central Bank, Ministry of Digital Technologies, "Hududiy Elektr Tarmoqlari," and "Hududgazta'minot" were tasked with developing the regulatory act draft and submitting it by February of this year.

Additionally, the decree provides for the possibility for debtors to pay off their debts in installments instead of being disconnected from the network. Changes have also been made to the rules for electricity and gas usage, including payments for exceeding contracted consumption volumes during the billing period.
