Uzbekistan Airways comments on the peeling paint on the wing of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan Airways commented on a video on social networks showing peeling paint on the wing of a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Users were immediately alarmed by the appearance of the aircraft.

“The plane is completely covered with tape. This is the plane we are going to fly on now. Welcome to Tashkent,” said the passenger.

The press service of Uzbekistan Airways reported that the problem of paint peeling on composite parts of Boeing B787 aircraft has been known for several years.

"All airlines regularly report problems with paint on their aircraft of this type due to exposure to ultraviolet rays. However, this is a temporary measure, and Boeing plans to add an additional top coat of UV protection to restore the peeling paint," the report said.

Currently, Boeing has applied to the US Aviation Administration with a request to temporarily allow the use of special adhesive tape "speed tape" on the wing and moving parts of the wing of Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

The wing and part of the fuselage of these aircraft are made of composite materials. The wing of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner is made of composite materials that allow it to flex in flight. This improves flight performance, contributes to fuel efficiency and increased comfort. However, under the influence of ultraviolet rays and loads, the paint coating of a composite wing cracks and has an unsightly appearance.

According to the manufacturer’s analysis, paint peeling is a cosmetic defect and in no way affects the airworthiness or safety of the aircraft.

Boeing is developing a special procedure for applying paint to the surface and plans to complete all necessary procedures in the coming months of this year.

“Taking into account the above, Uzbekistan Airways JSC has planned a phased repainting of three Boeing 787-Dreamliner aircraft in the near future,” the airline said.
