Uzbekistan aims for international LWG Standard: Audit check at leather enterprise begins

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — Following the presidential decree on measures to accelerate reforms in the leather and footwear industry and enhance its export potential, an audit check has commenced for enterprises seeking to obtain the international LWG (Leather Working Group) certification.

The audit aims to implement international environmental standards in leather production and minimize negative impacts on the environment.

Currently, LWG experts are conducting assessments at "Hamkor Nur Savdo" LLC, evaluating the enterprise against 17 criteria outlined in the international certification.

The LWG experts have reviewed:

- The company’s environmental impact

- Working conditions for employees

- Product quality

Following the audit, recommendations will be provided to address any identified deficiencies.

The audit process will take six months, during which the company’s production processes will be under full LWG oversight.

Obtaining the LWG certification will enable Uzbek leather manufacturers to:

- Enhance their competitiveness in the international market

- Strengthen Uzbekistan’s image as a producer of environmentally friendly products

- Attract investments to the industry

This represents a significant step for the development of Uzbekistan’s leather sector and its advancement to a new level.
