President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov resolved to approve a programme on modernization, technical and technological re-equipment of the pharmaceutical sector on 19 November.

The document said the resolution was adopted in order to increase efficiency and rational use of the capacities of the pharmaceutical sector, increase competitiveness export-oriented pharmaceutical goods and meet demand of population to medicines.

The resolution approved the programme on modernization, technical and technological re-equipment of the pharmaceutical sector till 2011. The programme determines the priority directions of local producers of medical goods and decrease expenses and increase competitiveness of the Uzbek medicines.

The programme also stimulates scientific research and innovative development of new products with the use of local raw materials.
