Uzbekistan adopts measures to develop electronic libraries
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov signed a resolution “On measures for further quality development of information-library and information-resource serving on the base of information-communication technologies for 2011-2015” on 23 February 2011.

According to the UzACI, the document was adopted to ensure further movement to quality new level of information-level services of population based on modern information-communication technologies, unite information-library establishments to single information space, satisfy intellectual needs of the new generation, preserving and strengthening cultural, spiritual- moral values, development of education and self-education system of students and population.

The resolution approved an Action Plan and Targeted Parameters on improving legal base, equipping information-library establishments, creating integrated information-library network in Uzbekistan, forming fund of electronic information-library resources, training of skilled cadres for 2011-2015.

In line with the resolution, the National Center of combined electronic catalogue will be created at the National Library of Uzbekistan named after Alisher Navoi.

The resolution exempted equipment, books, periodical publications, including electronic publications, which are not produced in Uzbekistan and imported to information-library establishments, will be exempted from customs payments (except the registration fee) till 31 December 2015. The list will be approved by the Government of Uzbekistan.

Overall, it is planned to create electronic libraries on the base of 1,815 information-library establishments within 2011-2015.
