Uzbekistan adopts measures on introducing digital tachographs
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Government of Uzbekistan adopted a resolution “On introduction of digital control devices at automobile transport, carrying out international automobile shipments” on 22 December 2011.

The document was adopted in order to execute liabilities of Uzbekistan, related with participation of the country in the European agreement, related to work of transport crew, carrying out international automobile transportation, which was signed in Geneva on 1 July 1970.

The document said that Uzbekistan joined o the European agreement, related to work of transport crew, carrying out international automobile transportation in 1998.

In line with the agreement, after 16 June 2010 international automobile transportation in the countries of the European agreement, vehicles, carrying out automobile shipment, should be equipped with digital control devices.

The government determined the Uzbek Agency for Automobile and River Transport as competent body on fulfillment of liabilities of Uzbekistan, related to the agreement.

Cabinet of Ministers entrusted the Uzbek Agency for Automobile and River Transport to develop and approve a regulation of cards, used in digital control devices to control regime of work and rest of drivers at conducting international automobile shipments in line with the requirements of the European agreement and Instruction on use of digital control device.

The agency will also coordinate work on stage-by-stage introduction and exploitation of digital control devices in line with the requirements of the European agreement and implementation of measures on introduction of system of digital control devises at automobiles of Uzbekistan, carrying out international automobile transportation.

On 16 June 2006, the amendment 5 to the agreement entered into force, which obliges non-EU states to introduce digital tachographs within four years. Within four years, the analogue tachographs can be used.

A tachograph is a device that records a vehicle's speed over time. Usually fitted to lorries behind the speedometer, a tachograph records the lorry's speed and whether it is moving or stationary.
