Uzbekistan adopts law on Children’s Ombudsman

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed the law “On the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for Children’s Rights (Children’s Ombudsman).”

According to the Law, the Commissioner of the Oliy Majlis for Children’s Rights (Children’s Ombudsman) is an official responsible for parliamentary control over compliance with legislation on children’s rights by government bodies, including law enforcement and regulatory authorities, as well as enterprises, institutions, organizations and officials.

The Commissioner for Children’s Rights exercises his powers independently and independently, and is accountable to the chambers of the Oliy Majlis.

The Commissioner for Children’s Rights is elected by the Legislative Chamber and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis for a term of 5 years.

The law defines the main tasks, rights and responsibilities of the Commissioner for Children’s Rights, including sending warnings about violations of the legislation on children’s rights, reporting violations that must be considered, and petitions for prosecution.

The Commissioner for Children’s Rights annually submits a report to the chambers of the Oliy Majlis on compliance with legislation on children’s rights no later than 15 February of the year following the reporting year.

It also takes measures to prevent the use of cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment against children. The Commissioner also appoints representatives in the Republic of Karakalpakstan, regions and the city of Tashkent.
