Uzbekenergo to modernize, construct power lines for US$203m
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekenergo will modernize and construct new power lines in various parts of Uzbekistan for US$203 million in 2009-2013 in line with the decision of the government.

The Uzbek government approved five projects on construction power lines with total extension of 601.4 km and the schemes for financing them.

The company will construct 200 kilovolt substation Ishtihan in Samarkand region in 2009-2010 and 110 kilovolt substation Gornorudnaya with incut to high-voltage line with total extension of 86.4 km. The project with the cost of US$34.2 million will ensure uninterrupted electricity to central regions of Uzbekistan. Uzbekenergo finances the project due to own resources.

Uzbekenergo will also realize projects to ensure sustainable supply of electricity consumers of Syrdarya thermoelectric power station, largest such station in Central Asia, with the cost of US$23.4 million in 2009-2012.

The company will reconstruct 500 kilovolt high-voltage line Syrdarya thermoelectric power station - Tashkent substation with the extension of 75.2 km and the cost of US$14 million in 2009-2010.

In 2010-2012, the reconstruction of 220 kilovolt high-voltage line Syrdarya thermoelectric power station - Karakiyasay substation with the extension of 71.8 km and the cost of US$9.4 million will be carried out as well.

Reconstruction of these power lines will increase reliability of electricity supply from Syrdarya thermoelectric power station in Tashkent region. Both projects financed by Uzbekenergo.

Uzbekenergo plans to construct 500 km high-voltage line Syrdarya thermoelectric power station - Novo-Angren thermoelectric power station with extension of 150 km in 2011-2013. The project cost is US$52.5 million. Uzbekenergo allocated US$26.5 million to finance the project and Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan issued loan for US$26 million. The project will allow to increase cross-flow electricity volume between eastern and central parts of Uzbekistan.

In 2011, Uzbekenergo plans to start construction of 500 kilovolt high-voltage line Talimarjan thermoelectric power station - substation Sogdiana with extension of 218 km. The project cost is US$93 million, of which US$80 million is foreign loans and US$13 million is own resources of Uzbekenergo.

Construction of power line will be carried out taking into account with modernization of Talimarjan thermoelectric power station, envisaging commission of additional capacities at the station by 2014.

Uzbekenergo will construct two combined-cycle plants with total capacity of 800 megawatt at Talimarjan thermoelectric power station with the cost of US$800 million.

The company plans to complete construction of two power lines by the end of 2009 - 500 kilovolt high-voltage line Guzar substation - Surkhan substation in Surkhandarya region with the extension of 197 km and the cost of the project is US$137.6 million, and Syrdarya thermoelectric power station - Sogdiana substation with the extension of 220 km and the cost of US$44 million.

Currently, Uzbekistan possesses 42 power stations, including 11 thermoelectric power stations with the capacity of 9.87 megawatt and 31 hydro power stations with the capacity of 1.7 megawatt. The potential production capacity is 56-57 billion kilowatt-hour.

Extension of power lines of Uzbekenergo is 235,000 km, including 220-500 kilovolt high-voltage line - 7,500 km, 35-110 kilovolt - 28,200 km, 0.4-10 kilovolt - about 200,000 km.
