Uzbekenergo installs 1.7m electronic meters
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Over 1.7 million electronic meters have been installed in Uzbekistan in nine months of 2010 to ensure precise accounting consumers’ consumption of electricity.

The meters have been installed within the implementation of wide-scale state programme on energy saving. Business entities installed over 200,000 meters in the reporting period.

As earlier reported, Uzbekenergo started stage-by-stage implementation of automated system of control and accounting electricity.

Uzbekenergo and a Czech consortium Inecon Power and Sitronics signed a memorandum on strategic partnership to develop the automated energy control system in Uzbekistan.

The introduction of the new system at enterprises and houses will ensure reduction of technological losses and more accurate counting of the supplied energy resources.

The duration of the project is one year and its cost is US$34.8 million. The company will be able to save 2.75 billion kWh of energy per year and to reduce green house gas emission to 1.9 million. The cost of the saved energy will comprise around US$125 million a year.

The new scheme will be financed by the funds of the Uzbekenergo, Uzbekistan Reconstruction and Development Fund, as well as foreign investments and credits.
