Uzbekistan 25/03/2009 Uzbek woman claims to be 119
Central Asia
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A woman from a remote mountain village in southeastern Uzbekistan, has recently turned 119, and could be the world’s oldest person, a spokesman for the regional administration said.

Gulsara Bekmuradova, who is thought to have been born in 1890, had three sons and two daughters, as well as over 100 grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Her husband died during World War II.

If Bekmuradova’s age is officially confirmed, she would take the title from the current record holder, Maria de Jesus dos Santos from Portugal, whose age has been verified as 115, RIA Novosti reported.

Another Uzbek woman, Tuty Yusupova, claimed in December that she was 128. Her age has yet to be officially confirmed, however.
