Uzbekistan 18/06/2007 Uzbek Senate to hold plenary session on 29 June

The tenth plenary session of the Senate (upper house) of Oliy Majlis (parliament) of Uzbekistan will be held on Friday, 29 June.

The Council of the Senate adopted a corresponding decision last week and it will consider several issues.

It is expected that the upper house of the Uzbek parliament will consider important laws "On introduction of changes and amendments to legislative of Uzbekistan in connection with abolishment of death penalty" and "On introduction of changes and amendments to legislative of Uzbekistan in connection with transfer of rights to issue of sanctions to arrest to courts".

The Uzbek President Islam Karimov signed corresponding documents to abolish death penalty and transfer of rights to issue of sanctions to arrest to courts from 1 January 2008.

The Senators will discuss introduction of changes to legislation on courts, arbitration courts and economic sphere.

The upper house will also consider reports of Central Bank and Accounts Chamber of Uzbekistan for 2006, as well as other issues of its competence.
