Uzbekistan 27/08/2007 Uzbek Senate holds plenary session, adopts several laws



The Uzbek Oliy Majlis’ Senate [parliament’s upper house] held its 11th session in Tashkent.

The Senate speaker, Ilgizar Sobirov, presided over the plenary session. The senators elected the session’s secretariat and approved its agenda. The agenda included over 20 issues related to the country’s social, economic and political life. Of them, 12 were laws directly adopted by the Legislative Chamber [lower house]. The senators started their work by considering the law on motorways. The law was adopted in 1992 and at present there was a need to make some amendments to it. The six-volume law that has 30 articles was adopted by the senators following discussion.

They also considered the law on amendments and addenda to some laws of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The session stressed that amendments were aimed at further improving the legal system.

Furthermore, the senators considered and adopted the law on amendments and addenda to the code of administrative responsibility.

The senators also considered and adopted the laws on trademarks and on place names where a product was manufactured, as well as on health care.

In the second half of the day, the senators considered and adopted by an overwhelming majority the laws on amendments and addenda to laws on audit activities and on insurance activities, as well as on amendments to the Tax Code and Article 32 of the Customs Code.

Moreover, the senators adopted amendments to Article 19 of the law on telecommunications.
